I’ve come across Stefan Sagmeister different times in my life so far (I don’t know him personally, unfortunately) and I assure you that this man is really an inspirational person.

First time I’ve met him (in 2009 at OFFF in Oeiras), he was dressed like a woman.
I’ve hear about him before in some graphic design books and in Helvetica documentary of Gary Hustwit.
That day this freaky guy dressed with a floreal jumper talked in front of 3000 people about something you cannot learn at school: life experience.
That day, my perception of work is definitively changed, really.

He exposed his personal list of the thing that he learned in his life so far:  as charismatic person he is, his speech was a really source of inspiration.

Great, simple truth.

“..I believe Creative Direction isn’t just Creative Selection. I’ve noticed the two are often confused and I think it’s the result of agency process. Creative Direction is about having a vision and making sure the vision is clear to everyone involved. Having a vision doesn’t mean coming up with or choosing the ideas. Having a vision is about leadership, constantly inspiring and instigating. That’s why Creative Direction has to start early in collaboration with planners, even before a brief is written, and follow through to the end of the rainbow. In other words, if Creative Direction is done right, you should never have to select. You never need to resort to the role of a bouncer. Or simply giving things thumbs up or thumbs down.

I have to be honest: I don’t love to fly. But I really love to travel so I finally found the good balance for travel without having a panic attack.
However, every time I take a plane, I’m not able to remain totally unemotional. So I decided to try to explain these emotions with this video.
I think that this song can really explain what I feel during the flight.

I’ve just come back from the D&AD masterclass hold by the lovely Alexandra Taylor.
It was a ‘open your mind’ day, full of inspiration and instruction. And at the end of it all, Alex gave her own, unique ‘Tomato’ awards for fresh and original art direction of the day. A truly inspiring practical masterclass on how to become a great art director given by one of the greatest art directors around.

And I’m proud of my tomato.
